In 1956 the Australian Institute of Export was established as a not-for-profit private sector organisation. A member of the International Association of Trade Training Organisations, AIEX operates in all Australian States assisting Australian exporters and export service providers by providing a range of highly focused skills development programs.

The Institutes' purpose is to foster and support potential and established exporters by providing guidance, representation, resources and recognition for success in the export sector.

The AIEX has a national membership of over 2000 and is a member of the Australian Logistics Council making it ideally placed to provide representation to Australian, State and Territory Governments on behalf of its membership.

In addition to the national and government representation the AIEX has set up an Advisory Council in each State and Territory to advise on local issues. The local Advisory Councils play a vital role in advising the National Board and Executive on issues pertaining to the State trade agenda so that strategies and plans can be implemented which meet that agenda.
